The Portsmouth Journal one of the most candid and reliable Republican papers in the State, speaking of Mr. Marston's prospects, says that the idea that by disaffection in the Republican ranks, Mr. Marcy will be elected is preposterous. The Republicans are united, and will give an overwhelming vote at the election in March. The Republicans as a party feel too much the importance of a Representative in Congress to give heed to any stories of their opponents about disaffection. The last story that came to our ears, was that Amos Tuck had announced that he could not vote for Marston! Since then we have a public announcement that Mr. Tuck is taking the stump in support of Mr. Marston.
In reply to the intimation that there is disaffection in Carroll county, Joseph Gilman, Esq., of Tamworth, a source to be relied upon, writes to the Dover Enquirer: 'I understand that it is currently reported in the counties of Strafford and Rockingham that there is great opposition to Gilman Marston in Carroll county. Such is the fact, but it is wholly and entirely confined to the Democrats. I am in a situation to be as well posted up in this county as any man living out of it, to say the least; and I unhesitatingly say that there are not twenty Republicans in this county but will vote for Mr. Marston, and do all they can to induce others to do the same.'
