ARREST

Of the CHRONICLE PRINTER.

Yesterday Thomas Adams, Editor of the Independent Chronicle, was arrested by Col. Bradford, Marshal of this District, and brought before the Circuit court, now sitting in this town, to answer to an indictment found against him by the Grand Jury, for sundry libellous and seditious publications, in his paper, tending to defame the Government of the United States.

The defendant pleaded not guilty, and requested a postponement of the trial, to the next term, which not being assented to by the Attorney for the United States the court adjourned this forenoon to hear a motion which the defendant's counsel proposes to urge for a continuance: In the mean time he is under recognizance for his appearance from day to day-himself for the sum of 2,000 dollars, with two sureties for 1000 dollars each. His sureties are Capt. Nathaniel Fellows, and Mr. William Thompson.-

John Davis, Esq. is the Attorney of the United States. Thomas W. Edwards, Esq. Counsel for Mr. Adams, made the motion for postponement.
