The Annual Meeting of the Numismatic and Antiquarian Society-Officers for the Ensuing Year.

At the annual meeting of this society, held recently, the President, Hon. Eli K. Price, in the chair, the usual routine of business was gone through with. In the absence of the Corresponding Secretary, a number of letters were read by Mr. McElroy, the most of them being in acknowledgment of the receipt of copies of Mr. Hart's discourse on the life and services of the late Hon. Gulian C. Verplanck, of New York, delivered before the society in May last, and which has lately been printed and distributed among the members.

A large number of valuable donations to the library were announced, including a "History of the Preble Family in America," by Commodore George Henry Preble, of the United States Navy, of which only one hundred and twenty-five copies were printed, and "The Lineage of the Lloyd and Carpenter Family," by Charles Perrin Smith, a beautiful quarto, also of limited edition. Both of these works were presented by their respective authors, and are very valuable contributions to local and family history.

Mr. Charles Henry Hart, the historiographer of the society, briefly addressed the meeting relative to the demise of its corresponding member, the Rev. Dr. Ballard, of Brunswick, Me., who died suddenly of heart disease November 14th, in the sixty-sixth year of his age, and offered the following resolution:-

Resolved, That in the death of our late correspondent, the Rev. Edward Ballard, D. D., of Brunswick, Maine, this society experiences the loss of one of its most valued members, whose labors in the fields of American history and philology place him among the foremost promoters of those studies which it is the object of this society to cultivate.

On the adoption of the resolution, Mr. Hart stated that he would read a memoir of Dr. Ballard at a future meeting.

Mr. W.P. Chandler read an interesting account of the "Queen Anne Farthings," and Mr. Jenks exhibited some fine gold and silver coins, which were examined with great interest by the members present.
