At the presidential election in 1824, the actual vote received from the electors by Mr. Adams represented 933,134 freemen; while the electoral votes received by Gen. Jackson represented only 687,045 freemen. When the final vote came into Congress, the relative proportion of the population represented by the votes of the States stood as: For Adams, 13 states, 87 members, 3,530,656 free pop.; Jackson, 7 states, 74 members, 2,565,262 free pop.; Crawford, 4 states, 54 members, 1,850,026 free pop.
