RESIGNATION AND APPOINTMENT.

On the 18th instant, the Chairman of
the Democratic County Central Committee
received a letter from Mr. A. H. Richards,
one of the Democratic nominees for
the Assembly, requesting that his name
might be withdrawn from the ticket, on
purely private grounds. Notice was immediately sent to the members of the
Committee, informing them of the fact,
and requesting them to meet in this place
on Friday (yesterday), the 21st inst., to
fill the vacancy. A majority of the members attended the call, and after a free
and full interchange of sentiment, on motion, DAVID E. BUEL was unanimously
chosen to fill the vacancy.

A better selection, under the circumstances, could not have been made. Mr.
Buel is well and favorably known, is a
Democrat true and tried, and was elected
Sheriff of our county four years ago over
one of the most popular men in it. To
the fullest extent he enjoys the confidence
of the Democracy and the respect of the
people. We have not time at this late
hour to say more.
