RICHMOND, Va. (P) - President Eisenhower captured Virginia's 12 electoral votes for a second time in a swelling tide of ballots that swamped Adlai Stevenson worse than four years ago.
In a record vote yesterday the Republican President rolled up a majority of nearly 112,000, which dwarfed his 1952 majority of 80,000 on the basis of near-complete returns.
Eisenhower rolled up top-heavy majorities in virtually every city of the state and was ahead in 9 of the 10 congressional districts.
Only the southside agricultural 4th District was going for Stevenson - and this by a narrow margin. In 1952 Stevenson carried the 4th and the Norfolk area 2nd.
The presence of States Rights candidate T. Coleman Andrews on the presidential ballot made no difference in the outcome.
With returns tabulated from 1,975 of the state's 1,876 precincts the vote was:
Eisenhower 363,717,
Stevenson 247,767 and Andrews 40,255.
