Full Text
Who would have believed (says a correspondent) in 1788, when so many appeals were made to the friends of republican government in favor of the federal constitution, that in 1792 a struggle against anti-republican and anti-constitutional measures should be branded with the epithets which there have been little doubt on the rapid change for so short a time; and of a kind that merits the serious attention of the real friends to the constitution in its republican form! Not less rapid, it is to be hoped, will be the demonstration that an enlightened people will watch over the republicanism of the constitution they have adopted, and distinguish between its real friends, and the monarchy-jobbers and stock-jobbers who endeavor to usurp the name.
