The Zebra members of the County Commission are squawking about this "handbill".
On the front page of this issue there is republished a story which appeared in the Augusta Herald on Friday afternoon, June 13th.
According to this story the editor and publisher of this "handbill" was summoned to appear before the Commission so that the Zebra members of the Commission could explain to us how the county is being run.
Evidently the Zebra members of the Commission have been reading this "handbill".
Evidently the things we have been saying have been going home and are stinging the Zebras.
We did not appear on June 16th.
The members of the Commission should explain how they are running the county to the people of Richmond County and not privately to us.
They should do it through the medium of the newspapers. They have access to all kind of publicity in both the daily newspapers of this City.
Their opponents do not have this access and their opponents do not have an opportunity to present their side of the issue.
That is the reason this "handbill" was started.
The Zebra members of the County Commission should answer some questions for the people of Richmond County through the columns of the daily newspapers.
The people of this County are asking these questions.
We repeat some of these questions:
1. Why are you raising the tax assessments of the people of Richmond County approximately two million dollars?
2. What are you going to do with this new money? How will you spend it?
3. What plans do you have for paving the streets in the suburban sections like Forrest Hills, King Woods and Lakemont?
4. Do you think that the people living in these sections are entitled to have their streets paved?
5. What plans do you have for giving the people in Forrest Hills, Lakemont and King Woods fire protection?
6. What plans do you have for paving some of the county

roads?
7. Do you plan to build a new courthouse for Richmond County?
And there is another question that should have your attention and the people of Richmond County are entitled to your ideas on this subject. The people of the City of Augusta pay over seventy per cent of all the tax money going into the County Treasury. So far the County Commissioners in this county have contributed nothing towards paving the city streets.
Since the people who live inside the City pay a great majority of all the tax money into the county treasury and the city is having such a hard time trying to pave streets don't you think that the County Commissioners ought to assume part of this burden?
The State and Federal Governments aid in paving streets in the cities and towns of the State. Why shouldn't you spend part of this money in helping the City pave some of its streets?
Now, Mr. Zebra members of the County Commission, how about using the columns of the newspapers to give the people of this county an answer to these questions?
While we are asking questions let us ask another question— Do you intend to continue your political party in Augusta as a Zebra Party? If you do not know what we mean by a Zebra Party we are publishing its definition in this issue for your benefit.
