SAYS APPEAL MADE
WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE
EDITOR, THE WORLD
Dear Sir:
In reference to the appeal made
in my name for funds for the new
drug, streptomycin, in a recent is-
sue of your paper, (Saturday. May
3), I should like to state that this
idea was conceived by some of my
friends with all good intent. While
I am indeed grateful for this fine
manifestation of interest on the
part of my friends, I would like to
make it known that the appeal was
made without my knowledge and
approval.
Frankly, I feel
that there are
many others more in need of the
expensive drug so that they can re-
turn to their children, and I wish
to have it generally known that I
was not a part of this selfish plea.
RUTHELLA MINER.

Main Argument
the appeal for streptomycin funds made in her name was conceived by friends without her knowledge or approval; she is grateful but believes others are more in need and did not wish to make a selfish plea.
