Full Text

Extract of a Letter, dated July 25, 1736. on board the Sloop Charming Betty, in the Harbour of St. Augustine, per Capt. Kipp, via New-York.

I Should have been in Boston by this Time, had not the Governor of this Place laid an Embargo on all Carolina Vessels; but for what Reason we cannot learn.

This is the 17th Day that Capt. Parsons and myself have been detained, and how many more we may be detained, we know not. We learn ashore that they are to have a Supply of a Thousand Soldiers: One Hundred of them arrived last Week, and the rest are daily expected; which gives us room to think they have a Design upon Georgia; they having stop'd Mr. Oglethorpe's Ambassador, and suffer not any Letters to Pass or Repass. Here are Four Sail detained.

This Sloop is admitted to Sail, they supplying their Garrison with Provisions yearly.
