CATHOLIC CHURCH STRUCK.

NORWALK, Oct 20.-During a severe
thunder storm which occurred here yesterday
morning the tall spire on St
Mary's Catholic church was struck by
lightning and set on fire. The flames
were extinguished by the rain. The
damage was considerable, but it is covered
by insurance. Early service was
being held and the people present were
thrown into confusion. Father Slocum,
the priest, prevented the threatened
panic. St Mary's is one of the finest and
largest church edifices in the state.
