Work of the United Evangelical Church
Conference.
The United Evangelical conference at
Pottsville yesterday, was taken up by the
reports of committees and discussions thereon.
There were two deaths of pastors during the
year and the memorial services were held to-
day. Bishop Dubs delivered the eulogy on
the late Rev. Jacob Kaechle and Presiding
Elder Smoyer performed the same duty in
memory of Rev. William Schuler. These
services were very impressive and the at-
tendance was large.
The election of delegates to the general
conference, which meets at Johnstown in
October, resulted as follows:
In the Ministerial meeting eighty-nine
ballots were cast. The last ballot resulted
in the election of the following delegates:
Revs. S. C. Haman, B. J. Smoyer, A. M.
Stirk; J. H. Shirey, W. F. Heil, A. M. Samp-
el. J. D. Woodring and S. S. Chubb. Follow-
ing are the alternates elected: Revs. D. A.
Medlar, G. W. Gross, F. E. Erdman, J. W.
Hoover and J. M. Pinker.
The following lay delegates and alternates
were elected:
Delegates - A. S. Beisel, J. G. Mohn, John
Hendel, W. Litzenberger, M. H. Kemmerer.
B. K. Kehler, R. W. Bard, A. Nolf.
Alternates - John Leh, F. E. Musser, W.
G. Borgner, J. J. Kehler and S. S. Watts.
The report of the committee on church
statistics is of much interest. It shows the
number died during the year, 202; expelled,
18; withdrawn, 67; moved away with
certificate, 35; moved away without certifi-
cate, 369; transferred from charge, 591; total
loss, 2216; received by confession of faith,
1724; received with certificates, 719; trans-
ferred to charge, 591; total gain, 3034; con-
versions, 2,332; total membership this year,
16,181; membership last year, 15,363; net
gain, 818; adults baptized, 378; infants
baptized, 824; itinerant preachers, 96; local
preachers, 61.
Number of parsonages, 18, value of parson-
ages, $29,150; number of churches, 155;
value of churches, $706,916; value of other
property, $36,060; value of Albright College,
$30,000; total value of all property, $802,126;
total indebtedness on all church property,
$172,373.
