Paris, (in France) June 26. This Evening a Courier arrived with Dispatches from Count Clermont, containing the disagreeable News of the Rout of his Army towards Nuys on Friday last, after an Engagement of near seven Hours in the Wood near Crevelt. It appears by those Dispatches, that the Action was for a considerable Time very hot on both Sides, and that the Loss we sustained amounts to between 2 and 3000 Men, and about double that Number wounded and taken Prisoners; but that the Loss of the Enemy, in the Article of killed and wounded, must be much more considerable, we having had for a long Time, the Advantage of firing upon them from the Wood, whilst they were forming themselves upon the Plain. When the Enemy attacked the Wood, the Action was extremely hot; neither would it have been possible for them to force the Trenches, thrown up before us in the Wood, had not whole Ranks of our People been swept away by their Artillery. No Troops could behave better than ours did upon this Occasion; and the Order of the Retreat did honour to the Commander. Count Clermont does not look upon this as an Affair of much Consequence. He strongly solicits for Artillery, to the want of which his retreat is chiefly to be attributed. He says that the Right Wing and Centre of his Army were not at all engaged; and that the Loss fell wholly on the Left Wing; and that as soon as he receives the Reinforcements which are on their March to join him, he shall again be in a Condition to face the Enemy.
