Supervisors Considering Important Factor

The board of supervisors are in regular session today, and among important matters under official consideration set for today is the redistricting of the judicial precincts of the county. This is perhaps one of the most important steps in reorganization of county affairs and has been the subject of much discussion throughout the state since it will mean the termination of the tenure of office of a large majority of justices of the peace and constables throughout the state. In Cochise county there are 21 judicial precincts with a salary cost of nearly $4,000 per month. Under the proposed plan discussed by the supervisors, the number of precincts may be cut to five or perhaps six with the attendant saving of about $1,200 per month. The discussions before the board brought out many interesting phases of inconveniences, also benefits, by the redistricting process, made possible under the salary and the economic features by its adoption. The law provides that the new districts to be created does not become effective until Jan. 1, 1913, and the salary is fixed by the ratio of voters within the precinct. The board were in the midst of discussions and legal phases of the situation at 3 p.m., but definite action is expected to be officially taken before adjournment.
