COLLEGE--Dr. Ernest N. Patty, University of Alaska president, has announced that Kennecott Copper Corp. established a continuing $1,000 scholarship in mining engineering at the university effective with the fall 1957-58 semester. The firm also will provide an additional $1,000 to the school.
Earl H. Beistline, dean of the school of mines, announced that the first scholarship will go to William Fuller, junior student from Milwaukee, Wis.
The following criteria are used to select the winners: proficiency in studies, enthusiasm, leadership, cooperativeness, initiative, ambition, good health, sturdy constitution, and financial need.
The dean said the $1,000 additional grant will be used to establish a school of mines foundation for the purpose of publishing books, pamphlets, and other material of importance to the mining field.
