We have an Account from Walpole, of a very sorrowful Accident which happened there the last Week; on Monday the 7th Instant, a Child of one Mr. Samuel Sneers of that Town, a Son, in the Tenth Year of his Age, wander'd from his Father's House into the Woods near the great Cedar Swamp, and missing his Way took into the midst of the Swamp, where he perish'd with Hunger and Cold, it being a very rainy and cold Season: All possible Endeavours were used for finding this poor distressed Child; great Numbers of People spent the Week throughout in searching for him with great Assiduity, without Success: But last Lord's Day, between Five and Six Hundred Men from the adjacent Towns, viz. Dedham, Stoughton, Wrentham, Medway and Medfield, gather'd together, who forming themselves into an orderly Rank of about a Mile and a Half in Length, which was joined by about Two Hundred Men more, march'd into the Swamp, to as no Part of it might escape their Inspection; and accordingly about One o'Clock, P. M. they found him lying dead on his Back, with his Arms folded across his Breast, partly under a puddle of Water. His Corpse was decently interred the next Day.

A 10-year-old son of Mr. Samuel Sneers wandered from his father's house into the woods near the great Cedar Swamp, missing his way and entering the swamp where he perished. Searches by great numbers of people throughout the week were unsuccessful. On last Lord's Day, 500-800 men from adjacent towns formed a line and marched into the swamp, finding the body about 1 o'clock P.M. lying dead on his back with arms folded, partly under water.
