The Tolleson Chamber of Commerce met last evening on the campus of the Tolleson Grammar School and discussed plans and policies for a fall campaign.
Mrs. R. C. Whyman, chairman of the Aluminum Drive for the Chamber of Commerce, appointed Lawrence Andrews and Earl Bingsman as assistants with the drive to further cooperate with the general chairman for the city, Mr. Guy VanLandingham.
A letter from the Pacific Greyhound Bus Lines in response to the petitions sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce was read by Mr. James Switzer who last week turned the petitions in to the Greyhound Phoenix office.
The letter from Mr. A. W. Bobo, superintendent of the Greyhound lines in Arizona, stated that efforts would be made immediately to cooperate with a better service for Tolleson and the west end of the valley.
A report of the sixteenth census as sent out from the United States Census Bureau was given by Mrs. R. O. Whyman. The authentic population of Tolleson for 1940 was 1731 as compared to 910 in the year of 1930. The surprising fact was brought out that though covering a smaller acreage of ground than Buckeye, Chandler, Casa Grande, Wickenburg, and other small incorporated towns in the state of Arizona, Tolleson shows a population of from five to eight hundred more than any of the above mentioned towns.
