Full Text

Smuggling.—We understand a large amount of Goods were seized by the Custom-house Officers in this town and Saco, the last week. Notwithstanding we disapprove of the policy of the Non-Intercourse law, still the evasions of it will have no tendency to procure a repeal of this ruinous measure; but rather tend to prolong its evils.—Whilst the majority of the democrats rest satisfied with every act of their party, merely because democrats are the authors of them, the present anti-commercial system will be persisted in. But let the present system be rigidly executed, and its ruinous effects will soon be felt by every class in the community to that degree that the government will speedily be compelled to abandon it as they did the odious embargo restrictions.
