Two million dollars have been paid into the insurance fund and 50,000 benefit checks totaling $1,000,000, have been paid out at an expense of 5 cents on the dollar. The fund is sustained by 1½% per cent of the worker's weekly earnings doubled by a like sum from the employer. Through a simple system of assessments, the employer is encouraged to provide more steady employment and cut out the waste of jobless workers. After one week's enforced idleness, the A. C. W. member is paid 40 per cent of full-time wages, but not more than $20 a week, for two and one-half weeks of every six-month period. As the fund becomes financially stronger the payments will be extended.-Locomotive Engineers' Journal.
