Brief ground breaking ceremonies were conducted Sunday morning after church services at the Lutheran Church here for the construction of a new school building.
Monday morning workers from Biray Construction Co. started clearing some of the land next to the centuries-old church where the school is to be built.
It was expected that a bulldozer would be moved in this morning to start leveling the land.
The building will be a modern one-floor structure with six classrooms. Also included in the building will be modern bathrooms, an office for the principal and a teachers' lounge.
Parson James G. Amos said that the building will cost around $72,000.
It is expected it will take three to four months to complete. It is hoped that children will start moving in by December.
At the present time, children attending the Lutheran school are going to classes to the west of the church. When the new school building is completed, the old building will be used for kindergarten and Sunday school only.
The school has a policy of adding a grade each year. The fourth grade was added this year.
The school employs seven full time teachers and for the first time, employs a full time music teacher.
Many parts of the new building will be constructed in the States. Parson Amos described the building as "panel-fab and concrete."
Where the new building is to stand another building stood years ago and only the foundations remains.
