The third day's session of the board of supervisors convened at 10 o'clock yesterday pursuant to adjournment. Present: T. J. Hanes, president, and Supervisors Adams, Hopper, Brabston and Laughlin.

The minutes of Tuesday's session were read and approved.

On petition of citizens of the Diamond, Banks, Henderson and Williams plantations it was ordered that the public school at Newtown, be and the same discontinued, and a public school be established on the E. C. Laughlin plantation in the third district instead.

The account of Messrs. Mattingly & Gunning for $1,600, for repairing the National cemetery road, was laid over until next regular meeting; it being agreed that a bill for the relief of the board should be asked of the legislature in the meantime.

The committee appointed to investigate the claims of J. F. Standard for right of way through his land for the Hough road, filed their report, and the board ordered that a jury be summoned to assess damages in the same.

On motion it is ordered that the word "bridge," after the word "special," be erased from warrant No. 665, issued to Messrs. Morris & Kennedy, on the 3d day of August, 1885, and made to read "special county fund" instead of "special bridge county fund."

Ex-Sheriff R. F. Beck presented a bill for $25 for additional work on the tax books caused by a change of tax levy after his books had been prepared was rejected, the board holding that this work was a part of the tax collector's regular duties. He also presented a bill of $50 for general extra work for the board under section 2139 of the Code was also rejected.

On motion it was ordered that J. W. Patterson be continued as keeper of the county poor-house on the same terms as specified in his existing contract to-wit: $1,000 per year for fifteen inmates, and twenty-five cents per day for each additional inmate; said J. W. Patterson to give bond in the sum of $1,000 to be approved by the president of the board.

The bill of Mr. Jas. G. Ferguson for $75 for filling cave in the road near his house was allowed.

A number of petitions for reduction of assessments were laid over until the August meeting.

Petitions of Messrs. Stark, King and others for license to retail vinous and spirituous liquors were received and ordered to lay over and be published according to law.

A petition for a bridge across Jordan creek in upper end of Warren county on the Valley road on the Bourne and Russeh plantations was referred to Supervisor Hopper.

On motion it was ordered that the action of the board in continuing J. W. Patterson as keeper of the poor-house for the present year was rescinded.

On motion it was ordered that sealed proposals be invited until the first Monday in February for keeping the poor-house for the year 1886. Said bids to include medicine, clothing and everything for the proper care and treatment of inmates.

A white public school was ordered to be established on the David Hopper plantation, near Bear Creek, in the fifth district.

The bill of W. J. Fletcher, for $340 for building bridge across Bear Creek near Dr. Hanlin's, was laid over until said work is examined. Messrs. Hopper and Adams was appointed to examine same and see if it is done according to plans and specifications.

The bill of N. B. Webster, for $75 for building bridge across Corn-house creek, was referred to W. A. Hopper for investigation.

On motion the president of the board was authorized to contract with Mr. Robert Ernst for regulating clock for one year at $75.

On motion it was ordered that the tax collector make proper assessment of the lands of A. K. Hall, as shown by his deeds, and that his assessment on lands which he does not own, be stricken from the rolls.

A number of bills for bridge and road work done in the third district were referred to J. D. Laughlin, supervisor of that district.

A petition from a number of citizens of Claiborne county for a bridge over Bogue De Shea, caused some merriment among the members and was of course rejected.

On motion the overseer of the roads running west from old Fort Hill, was instructed to have the same worked.

On motion Jackson Clark was appointed overseer of road No. 63 vice James B. Lanier, resigned.

The bill of the Vicksburg Gas Light Company for November and December were referred to the president of the board.

Ham Slaughter was appointed overseer of road No. 97 instead of Fenton Harris, resigned.

The bills of W. H. Wadkins and Robert Wood for road and bridge work in the second district, was referred to Supervisor John Adams for investigation.

The petition of T. A. Marshall and others asking for a bridge across Chickasaw bayou, was rejected.

The board adjourned until the next regular meeting in February.
