Capt. George Young arrived in London the 16 of March, from the West Indies, with dispatches from Commodore Sir Edward Vernon, and Major General Munro, containing an account of the surrender of Pondicherry, after a siege of 2 months and 20 days. By the articles of capitulation the garrison, after piling their arms, are permitted to march out with the honours of war, and to proceed to Madras, where, or in its neighbourhood, they are to be properly accommodated, until ships can be provided to carry them to France. This town is situated on the Coromandel coast, and was the principal settlement of the French in the East Indies.
