We can almost see the stiffening up of Senator Hoar's back and the look of blank amazement when Senator Shoup, of Idaho, slapped him on the shoulder the other morning and said: "Old man, that was a dandy speech you made for the bill, and we will stand by you until hell freezes over." We fear that Shoup is overreaching himself in his efforts to become a good fellow. He should first practice on the committee clerks and pages, and gradually work along until he becomes chummy with Tom Power. Then he may become familiar with the other great senators, including Mother Hoar.
