Election, Green, who is minority floor leader in the House of Delegates, trailed Friend 1,926 to 1,422 in complete but unofficial returns from the county's 27 voting precincts. The third man in the race, William M. Nazelrod, Sand Flat, received 262 votes.

Green carried Swanton, four of Oakland's five precincts, Red House, Ryan's Glade, Avilton and Mt. Lake Park, but Friend took the other 18 polling places.

Friend will oppose Mayor Joseph Hinebaugh, Democrat, in the November election.

Coddington Also Loses

George E. Coddington, of Oakland, was defeated in his bid for renomination to the House of Delegates. The three named were Kermit S. Glotfelty, 1,773; Jesse J. Ashby, Oakland, 1,743; and Harry C. Edwards, Grantsville, incumbent, 1,688. Glotfelty, of near Accident, president of the Garrett County Turkey Growers, was high man in the House of Delegates race which was his first attempt to win political office.

Coddington polled 1,429 votes and was fourth in the list of seven aspirants. Arthur G. Cullers, a former delegate, got 1,302; Russell L. Smith, 1,410 and Carlis Helms, 377.

Sines, Stahl Defeated

Two incumbent County Commissioners were defeated in attempts to be renominated, Jonas W. Sines, Oakland, and Stewart F. Stahl, of Grantsville. Aubrey C. Brenneman, Friendsville, was nominated for County Commissioner from district 2 with 1,864 votes. Stahl received 1,132 while Foster E. Yost, Accident, polled 458 votes. Stahl carried seven precincts of the 27.

In Commissioner district 3 Jonas Sines lost the race to Harvey D. Swartzentruber, Oakland, who had 2,138 votes to Sines' 885. Sines carried only four precincts. The winner led the entire County Commissioner ticket. Clarence A. Welch, Oakland, received 242 votes and Fred D. Trickett, Oakland, 172 in this district.

In Commissioner district 1, the incumbent, J. Edward Helbig, was not a candidate for re-election. The winner was Ervin A. Roth, Deer Park, with 1,059 votes. He won over Dwight A. Barrick, of Kitzmiller, who had 850; Curtis C. Miller, Swanton, who had 814; and Harry F. Paugh, Deer Park, who had 715.

Three Judges Named

Charles F. Hammond, Oakland, and Ellsworth G. Moon, Mt. Lake Park, and Roy C. Turney, Accident, were successful in their bid for nomination as members of the Orphans' court with 2,078, 2,034 and 2,121 votes respectively. Ben H. DeWitt was defeated with a vote of 1,848.

McKeldin Heads Ticket

Governor Theodore R. McKeldin carried Garrett county in the primary test with 2,688 votes and led the entire ticket. His opponents got only a handful of votes throughout the entire county, with Temus Bright getting 202, Pedro Del Valle 74 and James W. Gum, 297.

Named To Republican Committee

Four persons were elected to the Republican State Central committee, Chester H. Browning, Harry P. Collier, Lewis R. Jones and Lawrence M. Fraley. Browning was high man with 2,012 votes, while Collier was second with 1,640; Jones third with 1,475, and Fraley fourth with 1,427. Others in the race were Thomas W. Hetz, 986; Arlen S. Paugh, 1,120; James Augustine Ross, 748; Francis W. Sanders, 1,257; and James A. Savage, 1,156.

Voting on Monday was considered light, with only 50 to 60 per cent of the people bothering to go to the polls.

Books and ballot boxes were delivered to the Board of Supervisors of Elections on Wednesday and the official count is being made today.
