First Prize Easter Bonnet

The first prize, an original by Elizabeth Ford hat, made of dull gold chiffon-type material. Its dome effect was draped with the chiffon and for design of sheer lightness it had chiffon flowers and gold velvet bows on the border trim. A gold confection and most suited to our lady of the hour, our own Mrs. Matthew R. Duksa of Newington.

Mrs. Matthew Duksa sits near a Raphael's hat display holding her first prize, an Elizabeth Ford original. Mrs. Duksa was chosen with special attention to her classic and Jackie look at the recent show held by the Millinery Institute of America in conjunction with Raphael's Department Store.

By Natalie Rome

The Millinery Institute of America, in conjunction with Raphael's Department Store of New Britain offered to the public a beautiful and timely style show of hats. Wednesday, March 15th, in mid-afternoon, literally a hundred or more women came to look, buy and participate in this hat show.

Every lady present was given a carnation and cakes and dainties were served. The profusion of flowered hats gave an air of a flower garden in full bloom; colors were rampant and bows and veils perched at the proper angles added line and symmetry to a circle-in-the-round hat department.

The first prize went to Mrs. Matthew R. Duksa, 20 Bonair Avenue, Newington. She wore a well co-ordinated outfit in black, topped with a black Milan straw salad bowl type hat. She certainly was the epitome of the now famous "Jackie Kennedy look."

We thought Mrs. Duksa was the right choice, she has a classic type face and figure, and is extremely pretty. Being the mother of two children, Diana, six and Matthew R. Jr., four, is an added accomplishment.

Heading the judges for this now annual affair was Miss June Johnson, advisor, and co-ordinator for the M.I.A. Others were Mrs. Cavel Jobert Nappi, Channel 30 personality, Mrs. Grace C. Lee, and Mrs. Judy Weld Brown, both of the New Britain and Mrs. Mary Kensel, head of the millinery department at Raphael's was a most gracious hostess.

Presentation of prizes was made by Julius J. Kremski of New Britain.
