Superintendent F. P. Fitzgerald, of the state industrial school for girls at Mitchellville, has appeared in a new role. He is the author of an opera which is to be presented by the girls of the industrial school next Tuesday evening. This opera is called "The Queen's Messenger," and both the libretto and score are by Mr. Fitzgerald. The character of the opera is partly indicated by the dramatis personae, which includes Justica, reigning queen in the realm of the immortals; Fermentia, reigning queen of the witches realm, and goddesses Primeva, Genia, Maiesta, Flora, Oceana, Elenda, Classica, Pomona, Agria, Shellie, Luna, Harmonia and Poesie. There is a chorus of sprites and one of witches, and one of guards. There are three acts filled with music, solos, choruses and orchestra music. It is said that Superintendent Fitzgerald has composed a splendid opera and that the girls of the state school will put it on their stage in admirable manner. The state officials and their wives will make a party to go to Mitchellville to hear the presentation of the opera, and if it is pronounced good, the girls may be brought to Des Moines to present it here.
