The letter got into the newspapers, and as a result Dailey received 500 answers. From among the offers he selected Mrs. Hattie M. Newton, a Chicago widow, and they were married. They quarreled and finally separated. Dailey gave his wife three days to return. The time was up at midnight last night and she refused to return. Dailey forced his way into her bedchamber and shot her with a musket. Dailey was arrested, and on his way to jail was allowed to go into a saloon to drink.
