NEW LIGNITE MINE
Sentinel Butte Vein Will be Opened and Placed on Market.

Sentinel Butte, N. D., Oct. 25.—W. E. Powell, formerly a North Dakota man, but who has more recently been in charge of large coal mines in New Mexico, has leased the Gilbert coal mine property a mile east of Sentinel Butte and will begin developing it at once. Modern machinery for underground mining will be installed and the lessor, being a practical miner and one who understands lignite, expects not only to furnish coal for local consumption but to ship to other points.

This is the first time that an attempt has been made to find other than a local market for Sentinel Butte lignite although some of the largest and most valuable veins in the state are located here. Mr. Powell expects to put in a spur track direct to the mine—and he contemplates other improvements that will vitally affect Sentinel Butte, but is not ready to announce them at this time.
