Full Text

The Removal of the Capital.—The Capital of Iowa has again doffed its itinerant character, and taken its abode with us, for at least the next two years. A strange fatality seems to attend all the efforts made to remove the Capital from Iowa City.—When Commissioners were appointed some years ago, for the purpose of re-locating the Capitol, they selected a site, laid out a town, sold lots, and did all their acts as required by the law authorizing their appointment, in perfect good faith, but the Legislature succeeding the one that made provisions for the removal, discovered the folly of the whole plan from its very inception, and refused to confirm their report, and their proceedings became a nullity.—Iowa City Republican.
