MEMPHIS, Tenn. (SNS)—One of the highlights of the program in celebration of the tenth anniversary of the Fisk Stagecrafters was the excellent LeMoyne College. This one-act play, directed by Miss Marie Lauerman, won both popular and critical approval and was a fine climax for this season's activities of the local college in the dramatic field.

Miss Lillian E. Cashin, Director of Dramatics at Fisk University, arranged a commendable calendar of activities for the visitors who attended the dramatic festival. The session was opened on Saturday, May 9, with a Round Table Discussion over which Miss Geraldine McGhee of Fisk University presided. Later, brief talks were given on the following topics by students of LeMoyne College, Fisk University, Talladega College, Tennessee State College, and Dillard University: "The Student in Dramatics," "The Backstage Worker," "The Writing of Plays in College Dramatics," and "The College in Dramatics."

On Saturday afternoon, following lunch in Jubilee Hall, lectures were given by the following individuals on the given subjects: Mr. Ellington E. Smith, Director of Dramatics Morgan College—“Memoirs of Fisk Stagecrafters;” Miss Marguerite Pittman, Fisk University—“Further Memoirs;” Miss Lillian Voorhees, Director of Dramatics, Talladega College—Pioneering in the Little Theatre; Mr. John Ross, Director of Dramatics, Morehouse College—“The Little Theater in the Negro College.”

The featured event of the festival was the presentation of one-act plays by the players of Fisk, LeMoyne, Tennessee State and Talladega. The Fisk offering, presented just before dinner was “Cheated,” a play of Negro life by Miss Vivian Dreer, a Fisk student. The LeMoyne players opened the night performances by the presentation of “The Nine Lives of Emily.” Following the LeMoyne offering came “Smoke Screen” by the Tennessee State players and “Accidents Will Happen” by the Talladega Players.

After the plays, the audience and the players attended a Reception Dance for Guests in the Faculty Lodge on the Fisk Campus. On Sunday morning at the Directors of Dramatics held an open forum meeting, and later joined the players at the Fisk Memorial Chapel where the Reverend W. J. Faulkner delivered a well-received Mother's Day sermon.

LeMoyne students who made the trip and who participated in the play were Dora Moseley, Vera Cummings, Alexander Brown, Carrie Ayers, Alma Joyner, Norman M. Miller, John King, and Marie Lauerman, Director of Dramatics; Prof. W. W. Gibson; and Mrs. Hugh M. Gloster.
