Full Text
The Cincinnati Commercial, (Radical,) in view of the approaching election, calls upon the supporters of the Radical ticket to 'scratch the bummers.' This is as it should be. If any party nominates unworthy candidates, they do not deserve support, and, regardless of consequences, should be scratched. It is a wrong principle which covers the shortcomings of others with the great mantle of party; nor can we hope for any official integrity in the administration of affairs until it is wholly and finally ignored. Considerations of honesty, probity and integrity should be held superior to those of party. In every instance, 'scratch the bummers' should be an accepted principle with all who have the welfare of their country or their principles at heart.
