Full Text
The Editor is informed by his apprentice boy, that a BRIBE of THREE DOLLARS was offered to him by the gentleman whose conduct has been arraigned by pieces heretofore published under the signature of "The People," to discover the author of these pieces:—He thinks it a duty which he owes to himself as well as to the gentleman to make this public mention of it, that if, on the one hand it be true, he (the Editor) may express his resentment and dissatisfaction at an attempt to corrupt the tender mind of a child and to destroy that confidence which ought ever to exist between a master and his apprentice, especially in the case of a Printer, by tempting him with a Bribe, to betray those secrets, which by the terms of his indenture and the nature of his situation he is bound to keep;—so on the other hand, that the gentleman may have an opportunity of vindicating himself, if the charge be false, and that he may correct the boy, if he has told a lie.
