NEWBURY PORT. February 6.

The following is an Extract from General Orders,
dated at Head-Quarters, November 17. 1776

"The GENERAL now will from his knowledge
of the reduced state of the finances, and the great
scarcity of men in Great-Britain, from his acquaintance
with the character, the inclinations and interest
of foreign courts, from the late assurances he has had
from two of those courts. The General repeats, from
his knowledge of those circumstances, he will venture
to assure the officers and soldiers, and risks his
reputation on the veracity of his prediction, that the
war with Great Britain cannot last two years. In
his own persuasion, it will not last one."
