After Reaching Fort McPherson They Received a Letter That He Was Worse.

DAWSON, March 1.—The police patrol of the Northwest Mounted Police has returned from its trip to the Arctic Ocean.

The members met Vilhjalmur Stefansson, who is wintering on Herschel Island.

Stefansson said he endeavored to reach the outside last fall. The schooner Polar Bear, however, went ashore on Barter Island, and he was forced to return to Herschel Island.

The explorer was suffering from a bad cold and fever. When the police reached Fort McPherson they received a letter stating that the explorer was worse and was delirious.
