Effects of Lightning. A few weeks ago a pine tree on the farm of Zacheus Burnham, Esq., District of Newcastle, about one hundred feet high and four feet in diameter, was struck by lightning, and scattered over a surface of ground of more than six hundred feet, in each direction from the root. We saw the remains of this "stately Pine" last week, and were truly alarmed with the effects of the electric fluid. The tree is broken into hundreds of thousands of pieces, none of which are more than three or four feet long, and by far the greater portion do not exceed as many inches in length. The most minute of these particles have been forced to the distance above stated. At the time the tree was destroyed forty head of cattle were grazing in the field, all of which escaped unhurt.
