Coast-Will Not Last
Yesterday might well have been
Straw Hat Day in Juneau, and
other coastal cities, with the ther-
mometer breaking all existing max-
imum records for the month of
February.
At 4 p.m. yesterday the tempera-
ture stood at 57 degrees, four de-
grees higher than the previous Feb-
ruary high of February 11, 1934.
Sitka had 60 degrees yesterday,
breaking her existing record, Ket-
chikan also broke her record with
a 60-degree register, and Seattle
thermometers reached an all time
February high with 68.
In Juneau, yesterday's record
reading was the warmest day since
October 23, 1937.
Children were out on the streets
trying to wear out roller skates
they had gotten for Christmas, and
learning to ride bicycles that have
gotten little use since Saint Nick
squeezed them down the Yuletide
chimney.
Up in Commissioner's Court, Com-
missioner Felix Gray's secretary
Rosellen Monagle, cast an experi-
enced eye at the skies this morn-
ing and said, "No marriage licenses
today -- but just let this weather
keep up a couple of days—
But there is always a joker in
the deck. The Weather Bureau pre-
dicts rain for tomorrow and cooler
weather.
