Full Text

The Raleigh Register gives a gratifying account of the progress of civilization among the Cherokee Indians, making it probable that some other method might be adopted with that race, than "cutting them up in style." The Lancastrian schools are established among them, in which are taught, successfully, the common branches of education, together with the agricultural arts to the boys by systematic labour, and needle work, &c. to the girls, among whom are some genteel young women. This is the benevolent work of the Moravians, continued for 20 years past.

In the Panoplist also is a very interesting account of the Cherokees, in a letter written from the missionary establishment in that country, by Jeremiah Evarts, Esq. of Charlestown.
