Cpl. Ras Pickett
After spending five days of his furlough with friends out of the city, Cpl. Ras Pickett, one of Jackson's youngest ordained ministers came here to visit his parents. While being here he visited at the New Strangers Home and preached at the Mt. Nebo Baptist church, Rev. E. King, pastor, the New Jerusalem church, Rev. S. S. Brown, pastor, the Springfield Baptist church, Rev. R. L. Pickens, Myles, Miss., and concluded his series of sermons at the Holy Ghost M. B. church, Sunday night in Clinton, Rev. R. L. Pickens, pastor. He chose for his theme, "I have done my work." Mr. W. M. McNeil, Jr., sang a request solo for the Rev. R. S. Pickens.
He also visited many of his friends from Campbell and Jackson college. Before leaving the city death claimed his aunt, Mrs. Mary Pickens of Edwards.
Cpl. Pickens left enroute to his camp at Foster Field, Tex., where he is the chaplain's assistant.
