The New Hampshire election for Governor, Legislature and three members of Congress takes place next Tuesday. An Abolition correspondent of the Boston Herald, writing from Concord, makes the following estimate of the result for Governor:
Eastman, Democrat. 29,000
Gilmore, Abolition. 28,500
Harriman, Abolition. 2,500
As a majority of all the votes is required to elect, he believes the election of Governor will devolve upon the Legislature. He figures that body thus:
"Of the five Councillors, the Republicans will elect in the First, Third and Fourth Districts, and the Democrats will elect their candidates in the Second and Fifth Districts. The Republicans will probably elect Senators in the First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Seventh and Ninth Districts, and possibly in the Eleventh; while the Democrats will elect in the Sixth, Eighth, Tenth and Twelfth Districts, and possibly in the Eleventh, standing eight to seven or seven to five.
"We have the most numerous House of Representatives of any State in the Union. 331 in all, to but 12 Senators. The House will not vary much from 177 Republicans to 154 Democrats, if no town shall fail to elect."
The three members of Congress he gives to the Abolitionists: in the First District by 500 majority, in the Second by 360, and in the Third by 430 majority. We put this estimate on file for future reference. We believe the result will be better for the Democracy.
