BALTIMORE. Feb. 8.

Yesterday morning about 4 o'clock, the warehouse and kitchen of Mr. James Allen, merchant, in Howard's-street, were discovered, by one of the town Watchmen to be on fire. The several fire companies, and other inhabitants, assembled and exerted themselves with their usual alertness, spirit, and perseverance: but the flames had previously made such progress, that those buildings, (the former containing a considerable quantity of West-India goods, and country produce, and the latter, kitchen furniture,) were soon consumed. The fire communicated itself to the kitchen of Mr. Deal, which was also destroyed: and it was with great difficulty, Mr. Allen's dwelling-house, and other valuable contiguous buildings, were preserved from the further ravages of that devouring element, as very little water could be obtained, the pumps adjacent, being choaked with ice.

This fire it is said, was occasioned by the imprudence of a servant, in depositing ashes (in which fire was concealed,) in an improper place.
