Major Noah, in his inaugural article, in the Evening Star, thus sets forth the advantages of the evening over the morning—Nothing, in our estimation, can be more agreeable, after the labors of the day are over, than a well filled, well printed, and we were about saying, a well edited evening paper, which lays so invitingly along side of our cup of tea. The alternate sipping of the beverage and a paragraph—draughts of balmy liquid and an inspiring item of news—the crisp toast dipp'd in the ample saucer and a tale of thrilling interest—a fashionable rencontre—a jeu d'esprit—a glance at the fashions—a dramatic hit, or a line or two of flowing poetry, give zest, character, and true enjoyment, to the corporeal and intellectual treat before us. Reverse the picture, and see the merchant, trader, and professional man, after a restless and perturbed night, I come down to breakfast,—his head filled with business—speculations to make—money to raise—letters to answer—in chancery to draw,—and with his panorama views of the day's business flitting before him, snatches up the morning paper, runs his eye over a few paragraphs, swallows his cup of coffee, throws down the journal, and rushes to the busy mart. Give us, as our readers we hope will say, an evening paper, for cool, collected, tranquil, rational enjoyment. In short as we have firmly determined to print an evening paper, we hope the reading world will concur with us in always giving a decided preference, subscribing freely for it, and, what is equally agreeable, having cause to speak well of it.
