Wesley Merritt Gets Lottery Term

Wesley Merritt of 954 Smith St., SW., was found guilty on three of four counts of lottery in Criminal Court Friday, and ordered to serve two years in prison by Judge Charles Wofford.

Merritt was also found guilty of possessing illegal non-tax paid whiskey. Merritt's wife, Mrs. Annie Lou Merritt, was convicted on one count of lottery and fined $1,000 and given an 18 month suspended sentence.

During the raid on Merritt's residence last year officers stated that 30 gallons of illegal non-tax paid whiskey was found under his house.
