Of Being Blocked
May 7, 1954.
Mr. Walter Hodge,
Chairman, Leg. Assembly,
F'sted, St. Croix. V. I.
Dear Walter:
You are probably aware that Mr. Walter White and others are protesting bitterly and probably effectively about the passage of the two bills which have been reported by the Senate and House Committees for the revision of the Organic Law.
These protests came in shortly after you Gentlemen from the Islands were here.
As I view the situation, neither House will now consider the Bills from the Consent Calendars. If the bills are called up, I look for a full scale debate on both and to me this will be very unfortunate for the Islands. However, you know that Mr. White and others have their local supporters in both Houses and there will no doubt be plenty who will speak strongly for what they advocate. What the House and Senate will do about these matters is probably any man's guess now and I rather feel that from here on the proposals will have to travel a rather rocky road.
Respectfully submitted,
FRED L. CRAWFORD
