State Income Tax Exemption Talked

RALEIGH, Jan. 19.-(P) -Legislation to exempt from payment of state income taxes compensation paid by the federal government to North Carolinians in the armed services received overwhelming approval today from the Senate and House Finance committees.

Only a few scattered 'noes' sounded when a vote was taken at a joint session of the committees on the advisory budget commission's recommendation that no tax be levied on such funds. The two or three who voted in the negative indicated their only objection was to a blanket exemption.

On the motion of Rep. Ward of Craven, the exemption was made applicable to compensation paid since January 1, 1942.
