PREVENT TYPHOID FEVER
A few days ago The Tribune published an article on how to prevent the wisdom of the advice was apparent to all.
One of Cheyenne's intelligent and philanthropic citizens was so impressed that he came to The Tribune and said: "Publish that article for an entire month and charge the space to me."
The article referred to read as follows:
A minister of the gospel who is practical as well as orthodox offers some good suggestions on sanitary regulation for the summer. Referring particularly to bad water and typhoid fever, he says:
"Typhoid fever is the curse of country life. It is wholly preventable. The time will come when a man will be as much ashamed to have this disease in his family as he would be to have his neighbor's silver spoons found in his pocket. It comes from drinking foul water. Look carefully to your water supply. If sewerage is permitted to run into wells and cisterns trouble is sure to come. If there is any suspicion of foulness quit using at once. It is safe to boil all water before using.
Travelers who are bound to drink on the road should provide themselves with lemons. A dash of lemon juice will shrivel up the typhoid germs in short order.
"If these precautions are not taken doctors and undertakers will soon do a land office business. Preachers will be kept busy preaching funeral sermons. There will be broken hearts, fearful sufferings, and lives cut short. Almighty God will be blamed and His providence called into question when it will all arise from someone's ignorance, neglect and dirtiness."
