Full Text

Some measure of comfort can be obtained in the intense heat spells which occur at intervals through the summer, by noting that even when the death toll is high, it is an exceedingly small percentage of any given total population.

For instance, the twenty who succumbed in Greater New York the other day made but an infinitesimal fraction of the millions forming the population. As a matter of fact, even this mortality which does exist could be reduced by more care of individuals for themselves and more prudent attention to heat conditions. It goes to prove that nature provides endurance for unusual exactions if people are observant enough of the ordinary laws of health to develop it.
