Full Text
There is something gruesomely fitting in the fact that Carl Schurz is a leader of the opposition to the policy of President McKinley relative to the Philippines. Carl Schurz was the bitter critic of Abraham Lincoln in 1864. He was the most relentless defamer of Gen. Grant in 1872, and he was one of the traducers of James G. Blaine in 1884. It is therefore not surprising that Carl Schurz is opposed to the policy of the republican party at this time nor that he thinks it his duty to denounce President McKinley in terms almost as bitter as he denounced Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant.-Cadillac News and Express.
