Full Text

Danzick, May 7. We learn here by Letters from Libau, that Count Lacy, Field Marshal of her Imperial Majesty's Armies, Commander in Chief of her Forces in the conquer'd Provinces, and Governor of the City and Fortresses of Riga, died on the 30th of last Month, in the 82d Year of his Age, extremely regretted. — This General, who might indisputably rank among the greatest Captains of the Age, was born in Ireland, in the Province of Munster, of an ancient and illustrious Family, and not in Scotland as some pretend. His first Campaigns were made in France, where he gave, on several Occasions, Proofs of his Courage and Conduct. From thence he went into the Service of the Emperor Peter the Great, and by his superior Merit rose gradually to the highest Military Post; and we may say, without Flattery, that he is lamented by the whole Russian Nation.
