Georgia vs. Louisiana

"Two Negro students re-entered the University of Georgia and
calm prevails after the ugly shock of last week's riot. It is time, perhaps for those of us who are Southerners and moderates, who believe
in integration but understand the South's reluctance to do so, to salute
the state of Georgia.

"The comparison of Georgia's attitude with that of Louisiana,
where the legislature, still in special session, is still passing futile and
spiteful bills against the New Orleans schools, is profoundly heartening.
All the responsible voices in Georgia were raised in anger and distress
against the events of January 11. The Governor, the newspapers, the
faculty of the University of Georgia, the students themselves deplored
the picture of Georgia that was thus presented to the world."
