Full Text

A Water-Party.—A number of young men started from Portsmouth on Wednesday last in a sail-boat, on a pleasure party in the bay intending to return the same evening. Thick weather came on, succeeded by a violent thunder gust, and, having no compass in the boat, or guide to land, they were driven at the mercy of the elements, till nearly night, when the first land they made was Pigeon Hill. The manager of the boat shaped his course for this river; but being wholly ignorant of the course up to town, and it being towards midnight, round through the end of the breakwater, towards Plum Island bridge, there found his mistake put about, and at length succeeded with much trouble in getting up to the wharves across the flats; the whole party, about 12 or 13, being thoroughly drenched with rain, and feelingly alive to the comforts of a water party.—Newburyport Herald.
